Who We Are
We are three people who found each other aboard traditional sailing ships — as sailors, as friends, and eventually as the founders of Seehandwerk. What connects us is the conviction that life on board is more than adventure: it's a school for self-confidence, responsibility and real community.
Together we bring traditional seamanship, classic sailing and socially inclusive sailing to life in Hamburg — for everyone, regardless of background or budget.
Bram
Master Boat & Shipbuilder · Rigger
Bram grew up in Bad Nauheim, where a school trip aboard a traditional sailing ship changed his life. The sea has never let go of him since. He crossed the Atlantic, helped restore the museum ship Peking, and completed his craftsman's training at a boatyard in Potsdam.
As a master boat and shipbuilder and trained rigger, Bram is the man to ask when it comes to rigging. He runs our rigging courses and knows how to pass on knowledge so it really sticks.
Thurid
Social Worker · Social Education Specialist
Thurid comes from northern Germany, where she attended a Waldorf school. Eight months aboard a traditional sailing ship showed her what community really means — an experience that became the heart of her professional work.
She is a state-certified social worker and social education specialist, a Waldorf integration educator, and studied Management for Social Work part-time at NBS Hamburg. She worked in social work in Berlin and today works for the German Red Cross (DRK) in Hamburg. At Seehandwerk, Thurid is responsible for our educational concepts and makes sure our programmes truly reach everyone.
Uschi
Captain · Navigator
Uschi grew up in Berlin, attended a Waldorf school there, and discovered his passion for traditional sailing early on. He sailed traditional ships as a volunteer for over twelve years before formally pursuing a career at sea.
He completed his nautical officer's licence in Flensburg as top of his class, then served on various ships as second and first officer. Today he sails as captain of the three-masted Linden. Further qualifications include GZV, C750 engineer, and ship mechanic. At Seehandwerk, Uschi is responsible for nautical training and planning our sailing voyages.
